Grilled Apple Pie Bites

I love to bake and without a kitchen, this love has to be put on the back burner. I have found a good recipe for a microwave mug chocolate cake, but it does take a little time to mix all the ingredients. I know you can bake in the Instant Pot, but I don’t have the right silicon pans to make that possible.

So, if you’ve read my previous posts, I’ve been experimenting with using the grill to bake all kinds of things. I’ve successfully done cookies, a pie, and cinnamon rolls. I found a really cute glamping idea for apple pie bites and I wanted to try it out. It’s only 5 easy ingredients: apples, crescent dough, butter, cinnamon, and sugar

In no time you’ll have perfect individual apple pies. Preheat your grill to medium-low (or oven to 375 degrees). You must practice the indirect heating method on the grill or your bites will burn. I placed a cast iron pan upside-down on the grill to make an elevated surface. Take 1 peeled apple (I used Granny Smith because it’s the classic pie apple) and cut it into 1-inch slices.

Unroll the crescent dough, take note of the 8 perforated pieces, and brush the dough with melted butter (about 3 tablespoons). Lightly cover the dough with brown sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Place 1 apple slice on the large end of a single perforated piece of the crescent dough (I even added blueberries to a few). Finally, roll up the piece of crescent dough from large end to small.

Brush the top with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining 7 pieces of dough, place on a baking sheet and bake on the grill (or oven) for about 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.

The result is a warm, gooey, deliciously satisfying bite of apple pie. The blueberries bites tasted like a blueberry cobbler. So yum!

I want to start trying these with all different types of fruit and adding some cream cheese. They’re perfect for camping, an outdoor family dinner, if you’re looking for a fun activity with your kids, or if you are just simply cooking without a kitchen like me.

Enjoy!
