Hello 2021

Hello hello! It’s been so long. I’ve missed coming here to write my thoughts about life and connecting it to what I’ve been cooking. 2020 with two small children kept me busy. With homeschooling, work, the normal household chores, plus trying to keep my kids entertained at home 24/7 – there was little time for anything else. Then came us moving, Christmas, and before I knew it, 2021 was here.

2020 is gone, but not forgotten. I got to try and conquer sourdough bread making. I also made other yummy loaves, pretzels and experimented with recipes using the sourdough bread discard (the pancakes cannot be beat!). I tried some simple quarantine recipes since I didn’t want to venture to the store much and when I was there, it was slim picking’s. Pasta+cherry tomatoes+garlic+lemon+olive oil = yummy and simple dinner. I saw how many times I could use up a whole chicken while making a new dish each time. I made such delicious homemade chicken broth – another first.

I tried recipes from around the world that I had never heard of before. They all tasted amazing and made me want to find more family favorites from different cultures.

  • Butter Tarts – Canada
  • Tikvenik (pumpkin strudel) – Bulgaria
  • Place Drozdzowy z Makiem (poppy seed yeast cake) – Poland

I experimented with my own recipes like Chai Tea Shortbreads and Sweet Potato and Apple Soufflé and I threw a low key superhero birthday party for my son with some fun party ideas.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you saw more of what I’ve been up to over the past few months. Now that life for me has begun to slow down, I’d love to share these baking and family adventures with you. This blog is almost 2 years old, started because I needed an outlet from the stress of my kitchen renovation and having to be creative in cooking for my family without a kitchen. Here’s to the 2021 chapter.

Cheers!
